Greeks who have succeeded abroad
“GREEKS WHO HAVE SUCCEEDED ABROAD”
Recent and modern Greek history is full of stories of expatriates who sought their fortunes abroad and found success there in various sectors.
Many of them used the money, name or knowledge they gained to try and help their homeland or compatriots.
Some of the most prominent figures are the Renaissance painter El Greco, the mysterious Cephalonian Gerakis, the revolutionary Rigas, the wise Korais, the tireless Society of Friends (Filiki Eteria), the greatest politician of the 19th century, Ioannis Kapodistrias, the unprecedented national benefactors Varvakis, Sinas and Zappas, and Elena Venizelou.
